La stagione espositiva di Dep Art Out a Ceglie Messapica, sede estiva della Dep Art Gallery di Milano, si apre con una mostra dell'artista tedesco Gerold Miller. Venerdì 12 luglio 2024, dalle ore 18 alle 21, si terrà la serata-evento durante la quale sarà presentato un lavoro realizzato appositamente e localmente per gli spazi del trullo Dep Art Out. Durante la serata, ci sarà un intervento a cura del critico d'arte Gianluca Ranzi.

Gerold Miller ha voluto creare un'opera che lega il suo lavoro alla terra pugliese. Per la realizzazione, si terrà una performance alcuni giorni prima dell’esposizione ufficiale: un trattore, simbolo del lavoro agricolo e della fertilità della terra, seminerà idealmente in un nuovo substrato, quello dell’arte. Miller propone una nuova versione delle sue "scratched surfaces" realizzate pochissime volte durante la sua carriera. I segni impressi dal trascinare l’opera sulla strada e sulla terra ricca di sementi pronte a germogliare, rimangono "impressi" indelebilmente nell’opera d’arte.

Il trascinamento solca la superficie in maniera indelebile, così come il nostro cammino ci segna e ci arricchisce lasciando nella memoria segni indelebili.

La performance riassumerà alcuni dei motivi principali del lavoro dell'artista tedesco: il dialogo che le sue strutture instaurano con l’ambiente e la forza misteriosa, si direbbe magica, che il colore riveste nella sua opera. Come una metafora di vita, le superfici di Gerold Miller, solitamente lucide come specchi e pronte ad accogliere ogni immagine riflessa (spesso "troppo veloce e fuggente", dice l’artista), vengono segnate dal passaggio sulla strada.

È la prima volta che Miller utilizza, per questo processo, un'opera colorata. Arancione come il colore del tramonto, della terra arsa, ma anche il colore di quel trattore, un vecchio Fiat, che è anche memoria. Miller, cresciuto in una famiglia contadina, si riavvicina in questo progetto anche alla sua infanzia, con uno sguardo puro che sa tenere insieme la natura, l’arte e l’ambiente.

Come i ricordi sono indelebilmente incisi nelle nostre menti, la memoria locale, storica, della strada, della vita e della terra vengono incise indelebilmente sulla superficie dell’opera d’arte. Nella creazione stessa di un’opera d’arte, che sia musica, poesia o qualunque altro mezzo di espressione, un artista non attinge forse al suo vissuto?

The 2024 exhibition season of Dep Art Out in Ceglie Messapica, the summer venue of Dep Art Gallery in Milan, opens with a show by German artist Gerold Miller. On Friday, July 12, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM, a special evening event will take place, during which a work created specifically and locally for the trullo spaces of Dep Art Out will be presented. The evening will feature a presentation by art critic Gianluca Ranzi.

Gerold Miller has created a work that ties his art to the land of Puglia. For its creation, a performance will take place a few days before the official exhibition: a tractor, symbolizing agricultural work and the fertility of the land, will ideally sow in a new substratum, that of art. Miller presents a new version of his "scratched surfaces," which he has created only a few times in his career. The marks left by dragging the work on the road and on the rich soil, ready to germinate, remain indelibly "impressed" on the artwork.

The act of dragging etches the surface, much like our journey marks and enriches us, leaving indelible imprints in our memory. The performance will encapsulate some of the main themes of the German artist's work: the dialogue his structures establish with the environment and the mysterious, one might say magical, power that color holds in his art. As a metaphor for life, Gerold Miller's surfaces, usually as shiny as mirrors and ready to reflect every image (often "too fast and fleeting," says the artist), are marked by their passage along the road.

This is the first time Miller uses a colored work for this process. Orange like the color of the sunset, of the sunburned earth, but also the color of that tractor, an old Fiat, which is also a memory. Miller, who grew up in a farming family, reconnects with his childhood in this project, with a pure gaze that knows how to combine nature, art, and the environment.

Just as memories are indelibly etched in our minds, the local, historical memory of the road, life, and the land are indelibly engraved on the surface of the artwork. In the very creation of an artwork, whether it be music, poetry, or any other means of expression, does not the artist draw from their own experiences?
