La Galleria

Dep Art Gallery è stata inaugurata il 22 settembre 2006 con una mostra personale di Mario Nigro. Fondata a Milano da Antonio Addamiano, deve il suo nome, acronimo di Distribuzione e Promozione Arte, anche al vocabolo inglese “depart”, partire. È dunque una partenza con una direzione precisa che segna il percorso compiuto dalla galleria sino ad oggi, caratterizzato da un programma culturale ampio e variegato, teso a offrire ai collezionisti la possibilità di creare o arricchire una collezione e, soprattutto, tutelarla nel tempo. Le scelte espositive riguardano sia artisti italiani sia stranieri, con un’attenzione particolare a una serie di autori attivi negli anni Sessanta e Settanta, senza trascurare però le generazioni successive e sempre cercando di alternare e indagare i linguaggi più vari.

L’importante collaborazione con l’Archivio Emilio Scanavino a partire dal 2008 sarà propedeutica al perfezionamento della formazione di Antonio Addamiano che, oltre ad usare con efficacia i nuovi social media e quanto il web consente, ha saputo valorizzare l’archivio della galleria. 

Da dicembre 2013 a febbraio 2021 è stata sede dell’Archivio Turi Simeti: Antonio Addamiano e Federico Sardella hanno curato il catalogo ragionato, pubblicato da Skira nel 2017.

Le esposizioni prevedono un allestimento teso al dialogo tra le opere e lo spazio, che di volta in volta viene adattato alle diverse esigenze o articolato per valorizzare al meglio i lavori. In particolar modo, questo fu possibile dal 2015 quando, confermando il legame con la sua città e con gli artisti con i quali ha avviato il suo percorso, Antonio Addamiano inaugurò l’attuale sede di via Comelico 40 in un edificio indipendente di due piani, che risponde a pieno alle necessità degli autori che rappresenta, per i quali promuove e organizza anche iniziative in diverse istituzioni pubbliche e private, collaborando con musei, fondazioni e gallerie, in Italia e all’estero, oltre a partecipare alle più importanti fiere nazionali e internazionali.

Il rapporto esclusivo instaurato con gli artisti conduce a collaborazioni durature, che prevedono relazioni costanti e dirette, tanto che Dep Art Gallery è diventata la galleria di riferimento di: Natale Addamiano, Alberto Biasi, Mario Nigro, Pino Pinelli, Salvo, Emilio Scanavino, Turi Simeti e Ludwig Wilding.

Negli ultimi anni la galleria ha ampliato la gamma dei suoi autori avviando una serie di collaborazioni continuative prima in ambito tedesco, con Regine Schumann e Wolfram Ullrich, e successivamente prestando attenzione a un contesto principalmente internazionale, realizzando mostre personali di Tony Oursler e Carlos Cruz-Diez.

Tutte le mostre sono realizzate con la collaborazione diretta degli artisti, o dei loro eredi, e prevedono sempre anche il coinvolgimento di un curatore. Fondamentale è infatti il supporto critico, teso alla realizzazione di cataloghi o corpose monografie bilingue che vengono puntualmente distribuite, e che hanno dato modo alla galleria di emergere anche in qualità di editore, grazie anche ai contributi di Matteo Galbiati, Demetrio Paparoni, Francesca Pola, Gianluca Ranzi, Federico Sardella, Francesco Tedeschi e Alberto Zanchetta.

Dal 2017 al 2021 Antonio Addamiano affianca al suo impegno in galleria quello di delegato per la regione Lombardia presso l’Associazione Nazionale Gallerie d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (ANGAMC). Ad oggi Dep Art Gallery è una realtà dinamica, in continua espansione, che può offrire grande varietà di servizi, rappresentando vari autori che si esprimono attraverso linguaggi differenti.

The Gallery

Dep Art Gallery opened on September 22nd, 2006, with a solo exhibition by Mario Nigro. It was founded in Milan by Antonio Addamiano, and it owes its name, acronym of Distribution and Art Promotion, to the English word "depart". Thus, it is a departure with a specific direction that the gallery pursues to this day characterized by a broad and varied cultural program, which seeks to offer collectors the opportunity to create, or enrich their collection, and above all, to preserve it over time. Both Italian and foreign artists are selected for the exhibitions program, yet there is a particular attention to artists of the '60s and '70s, without forgetting subsequent generations, and always trying to alternate and explore a range of languages.

The important collaboration with the Emilio Scanavino Archive, started in 2008, will be a decisive experience for Antonio Addamiano who, besides harnessing new social media and the full potential of the world wide web, has been able to enhance the gallery archive. 

From December 2013 until February 2021 it was home to Turi Simeti's Archive: Antonio Addamiano and Federico Sardella edited the catalogue raisonné published by Skira in 2017.

The exhibitions are designed to create a dialogue between the artworks and the gallery's space, which is adapted to the different needs or respectively conceptualized so as to showcase the works in the best manner. In 2015, this was made possible when Antonio Addamiano confirmed the connection with his native city, and with the first artists with whom he set out on his journey. 

He inaugurated the current venue in Via Comelico 40, in an independent two-storey building that fully meets the needs of the represented artists, for whom he organizes and promotes initiatives in various public and private institutions, collaborating with museums, foundations and galleries both in Italy and abroad. Also, Antonio Addamiano manages the gallery’s participation in the most important national and international fairs.

By being in close direct relationship and having built long-lasting collaborations with its artists, Dep Art Gallery has become the reference gallery for: Natale Addamiano, Alberto Biasi, Mario Nigro, Pino Pinelli, Salvo, Emilio Scanavino, Turi Simeti and Ludwig Wilding.

In recent years, the gallery has expanded the range of its artists by starting a series of ongoing collaborations, firstly in Germany with Regine Schumann and Wolfram Ullrich, and secondly by widening its focus to a more broadly international context with solo exhibitions by Tony Oursler and Carlos Cruz-Diez.

All exhibitions are realized with direct collaboration of the artists, or their heirs, and always with the involvement of a curator. In fact, the curatorial support stands at the center of activities since every exhibition is accompanied by catalogues or bilingual monographs. Through this editorial work, the gallery has assumed the role of publisher, also thanks to the contributions of: Matteo Galbiati, Demetrio Paparoni, Francesca Pola, Gianluca Ranzi, Federico Sardella, Francesco Tedeschi and Alberto Zanchetta.

 2017, Antonio Addamiano has furthermore carried out the role of the delegate for the Lombardy region at the National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries (ANGAMC) and today, Dep Art Gallery is a dynamic and consistently growing art organization, which offers a broad array of services and represents a great diversity of artistic expressions.
