Dep Art Gallery presenta a Milano, dal 28 marzo al 1 giugno 2023, Wolfram Ullrich. Opere 1987 – 2023 a cura di Gianluca Ranzi. La mostra propone un corpus di oltre 30 opere, che ripercorrono le tappe principali della produzione artistica di Ullrich.
Dai “Tagli” su lastre in ferro di fine anni Ottanta, alle “Pieghe” in alluminio degli anni Novanta, fino alle complesse modulazioni geometrico-prospettiche in acciaio degli anni Duemila, “Wolfram Ullrich. Opere 1987 – 2023” affronta l’opera dell’artista nella sua evoluzione mostrando come essa rimanga sempre fedele a stessa. Focus della mostra sarà l’opera monumentale che accoglierà i visitatori all’ingresso della galleria milanese.
Wolfram Ullrich, che trova la sua ispirazione nel Minimalismo e nell’Arte Concreta, ha attraversato diverse fasi artistiche, mantenendo però una solida coerenza e unicità creativa. La sua ricerca si concentra sull'apertura verso lo spazio della parete e sulla relazione tra i lavori e l'ambiente circostante. Le opere sono concrete e presenti, ma rimangono aperte e risonanti. L'opera di Ullrich è uno stimolo alla visione, apre l'occhio dello spettatore a nuove avventure conoscitive e fa riflettere sul senso dell'opera e della relazione che essa intrattiene con lo spazio.
Come nota il curatore Gianluca Ranzi, “Tutto quello che lo spettatore percepisce davanti alle opere di Ullrich è messo sotto interrogativo, in una sfida ottico-percettiva che lo coglie felicemente di sorpresa, sollecitandolo a dare un senso ulteriore alla propria visione. I colori acrilici delle superfici d’acciaio e a rilievo sono stesi uniformemente con un processo manuale che per la sua perizia pare industriale, a volte brillanti e detonanti, altre volte sommessi e delicatamente tonali.”
Ad arricchire la mostra vi saranno alcuni lavori della serie “Windows”, che l’artista ha realizzato ed esposto ad agosto 2022 per la sede estiva della galleria, la Dep Art OUT di Ceglie Messapica, nello spazio di un antico trullo, e proposte successivamente alla Ex chiesetta di Polignano a Mare in un progetto a cura di Carmelo Cipriani.
La mostra, seconda personale dell’artista tedesco in galleria, è accompagnata da un catalogo bilingue, italiano e inglese, che contiene il testo del curatore Gianluca Ranzi, la biografia aggiornata dell’autore oltre ad alcune foto storiche, le installation-view delle sale della galleria oltre alla riproduzione fotografica di tutte le opere esposte.

Dep Art Gallery presents Wolfram Ullrich. Works 1987-2023, curated by Gianluca Ranzi, in Milan from March 28th to June 1st, 2023. The exhibition features over 30 works, which trace the main stages of Ullrich's artistic production.
From the "Cuts" on iron plates of the late 1980s, to the "Folds" in aluminum from the 1990s, to the complex geometric-perspective modulations in steel from the 2000s, "Wolfram Ullrich. Works 1987-2023" addresses the artist's work in its evolution, showing how it always remains true to itself. The focus of the exhibition will be the monumental work that will welcome visitors at the entrance of the Milanese gallery.
Wolfram Ullrich, inspired by Minimalism and Concrete Art, has gone through various artistic phases, but has always maintained solid coherence and creative uniqueness. His research focuses on the opening towards the wall space and the relationship between the works and the surrounding environment. The works are concrete and present, but remain open and resonant. Ullrich's work is a stimulus to open the viewer's eye to new cognitive adventures and reflecting on the meaning of the work and the relationship it maintains with space.
As curator Gianluca Ranzi notes, "Everything the viewer perceives in front of Ullrich's works is put into question, in an optical-perceptive challenge that happily catches him by surprise, urging him to give further meaning to his own vision. The acrylic colors of the steel and relief surfaces are uniformly applied with a manual process that, for its skill, seems industrial, sometimes brilliant and explosive, other times subdued and delicately tonal."
The exhibition will be enriched by some works from the "Windows" series, which the artist created and exhibited in August 2022 for the summer venue of the gallery, Dep Art OUT in Ceglie Messapica, in the space of an ancient trullo, and subsequently proposed at the Ex Chiesetta of Polignano a Mare in a project curated by Carmelo Cipriani.
The exhibition, the second solo show of the German artist in the gallery, is accompanied by a bilingual catalog, in Italian and English, which contains the text by curator Gianluca Ranzi, the updated biography of the author, as well as some historical photos, installation views of the gallery rooms, and the photographic reproduction of all the exhibited works.
