Il collezionista e appassionato di Salvo (Salvatore Mangione, 1974 - 2015), ne conosce sicuramente la storia: dal periodo di appartenenza al movimento dell’Arte Povera, alla sua rottura con esso, gli introvabili anni ’70, il periodo degli anni ’80, fino alle opere più recenti.
Chi invece approccia solo oggi la sua opera, potrebbe non essere a conoscenza della produzione passata, infatti le opere sono sicuramente più rare da vedere nelle esposizioni e nelle fiere. Senza contare che nella circolazione sul mercato sono in numero decisamente minore e non semplici da trovare.
La mostra che Dep Art Gallery dedica a Salvo nel 2017, la terza, senza contare le collaborazioni per altri progetti, ha voluto mostrare al pubblico opere scelte durante il percorso artistico di Salvo, da inizio anni ’70 agli anni 2000. Nel breve video pubblicato sul canale Youtube della galleria, è possibile vedere un estratto della mostra, dove le opere appaiono in ordine cronologico raggruppate per decenni, una Sicilia del 1976, le lapidi in marmo del 1972, alcune “rovine”, soggetto tipico di metà/fine anni ’70. Appaiono poi gli anni ‘80, estremamente riconoscibili nei colori accesi e nei “coni” di luce esasperati, fino alle opere più conosciute e riconoscibili, dagli anni 90 in poi.
Usando una frase del curatore, Matteo Galbiati: “La ricerca di Salvo spazia con coerente disinvoltura attraverso differenti orizzonti immaginativi che hanno sempre saputo, però, inscriversi nel proprio tempo, rischiarandone con il vigore della loro luce autonoma, la storia e il pensiero”.

The collector and passionate of Salvo (Salvatore Mangione, 1974 - 2015), certainly knows its history: from the period of belonging to the Arte Povera movement, to its break with it, the unreachable '70s, the period of the '80s, up to the most recent works.
Those who approach his work only today, however, may not be aware of past production, in fact the works are certainly rarer to see in exhibitions and fairs. Not to mention that in the circulation on the market they are in much smaller numbers and not easy to find.
The exhibition that Dep Art Gallery dedicates to Salvo in 2017, the third, not to mention the collaborations for other projects, wanted to show the public works chosen during Salvo's artistic career, from the early 70s to the 2000s. In the short video published on the Youtube channel of the gallery, it is possible to see an extract of the exhibition, where the works appear in chronological order grouped for decades, a Sicily of 1976, the marble gravestones of 1972, some "ruins", typical subject of the mid/late 70s. Then appear the 80s, extremely recognizable in bright colors and the exasperated "cones" of light, up to the most famous and recognizable works from the 90s onwards.
Using a phrase by the curator, Matteo Galbiati: "Salvo's research ranges with consistent ease through different imaginative horizons that have always been able, however, to inscribe themselves in their own time, illuminating history and thought with the vigour of their autonomous light".
