Alighiero BOETTI Il mondo fantastico | Exhibition Dep Art Gallery 2018 A cosa serve questo video se non a dare nuova vita alla mostra Alighiero Boetti. Il Mondo Fantastico, che, a sua volta, aveva riproposto una grande opera installativa fatta di piccoli animaletti in plastica, di quelli che si acquistavano in edicola. Il celebro ZOO di Alighiero Boetti inizialmente era stato pensato per essere un gioco tra l’artista e i suoi figli Agata e Matteo ma, ben presto, assume l’aspetto, il carattere e l’importanza di un’istallazione fortuita e senza fine, come scrive Annemarie Sauzeau Boetti, che fu colta per caso dall’obiettivo di Giorgio Colombo nell’autunno del 1979. Grazie alle sue fotografie è stato possibile farsi un'idea precisa di questo ambiente che ha invaso lo studio romano di Boetti. La documentazione fotografica e i racconti dei protagonisti hanno permesso di riproporre fedelmente lo ZOO e di porlo in dialogo con una serie di opere degli anni Ottanta che risentono evidentemente della sua influenza, in occasione della mostra dedicata ad Alighiero Boetti presso Dep Art Gallery, a Milano, dal 28 febbraio al 28 aprile 2018. Quando il curatore della mostra Federico Sardella e Antonio Addamiano incontrarono Agata Boetti, all’Archivio Boetti, lei stessa confermò di avere conservato per tutti questi anni gli animaletti di plastica che erano protagonisti del suo ZOO, rigorosamente suddivisi per specie in buste di plastica trasparente, sigillate ed etichettate. Vista la disponibilità degli elementi originali che diedero vita a ZOO, il lavoro è stata facilmente e felicemente adattato allo spazio della galleria, cha ha eccezionalmente riproposto quest’opera così privata e speciale, in bilico fra gioco, operazione artistica e installazione. Riconsiderata secondo una mappatura stabilita dai documenti e dalle testimonianze dell’epoca, questa eccezionale riproposizione dello ZOO offre un’occasione di riflessione e verifica su tutta l’opera di Boetti e sul suo mondo fantastico, confermandone l’esatto punto d’origine.

What’s the good of this video if not to bring back to life the exhibition Alighiero Boetti. Il Mondo Fantastico, which, in turn, had re-proposed a great installation made of little plastic animals, the kind you buy at newsstands? Alighiero Boetti's ZOO was initially thought to be a game between the artist and his sons Agata and Matteo, but it soon took on the appearance, character and importance of a fortuitous and never-ending installation, as Annemarie Sauzeau Boetti writes, which was caught by chance by Giorgio Colombo's lens in the autumn of 1979. Thanks to his photographs we can retrace the original setting that invaded the artist's Roman studio. The photographic documentation and the stories of the protagonists have made it possible to accurately reproduce the ZOO and bring it into dialogue with a series of works from the 1980s that are clearly influenced by it, on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to Alighiero Boetti at Dep Art Gallery in Milan, from 28 February to 28 April 2018. When the curator of the exhibition Federico Sardella and Antonio Addamiano met Agata Boetti at the Boetti Archive in Rome, she confirmed that she had been keeping for all these years the plastic animals, that were the protagonists of her ZOO, in transparent plastic bags, sealed and labelled and strictly divided by species. Given the availability of the original elements, it was easily and happily adapted to the gallery’s space, which has exceptionally re-proposed this private and special work, placed somewhere between game, artistic work and installation. Rebuilt according to a mapping established by the documents and testimonies of the time, this exceptional re-proposal of the ZOO offers an opportunity for reflection and verification of Boetti's entire work and his fantasy world, confirming the exact point of origin.
